YES OR NO

Sooo, I have been contemplating on this post because of the controversy it may cause.  However, I am not here to tell you how to vote, I'm here to ASK that you do your research before heading to the polls.  For the past few weeks, I have been researching several websites trying to find unbiased information on Amendment 26. Needless to say, the subject is still unclear.  The way the Amendment is stated makes it very ambiguous (or maybe I'm just slow).
Initiative #26
“Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Mississippi:
SECTION 1. Article III of the constitution of the state of Mississippi is hearby amended BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION TO READ:
SECTION 33. Person defined. As used in this Article III of the state constitution, “The term ‘person’ or ‘persons’ shall include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the functional equivalent thereof.”

THIS is what you will see on the ballot

Should the term 'person' be defined to include
every human being from the moment
of fertilization, cloning, or the equivalent thereof?
YES OR NO

This is just not clear to me!  No fine print...just a simple yes or no.  If you do little to no research and go to the polls, most would mark yes. BUT, what are the underlying details?  How will this affect physicians?  How will it affect women who may suffer from a miscarriage?  What about rape victims?...will they have a choice?  Will it ban the use of contraceptives?  Mississippi finds itself in a dire situation when it comes to teen pregnancy and sexual health. According to Mississippi First, the teen birth rate is the highest in the nation, at 64.1 births for every 1,000 teenage (15- to 19-year-old) girls. Mississippi also leads the nation in teen infection rates for several sexually transmitted diseases. In a state where the lack of sex education has perpetuated the cycle of teen pregnancy, limiting women’s access to methods of contraception can only worsen the situation.
What about stem research? This could potentially help find a cure for the atrocious disease we call....cancer.  It is not just aborted fetuses that are used.  Some people donate their still borns to science, and in some cases umbilical cord blood from live births can be used for research.

Again, I am in no way telling or asking you to vote a certain way.  I am simply asking that you do your research! Spread the word...tell your family and friends because this could potentially affect YOU!
I do believe you can be pro-choice and and against this Amendment.

Until next time,
XOXO
t.RAE :)
